The Role

We’re seeking experienced Support Workers in Toowoomba to work across clients with complex and high support needs. In this role, you’ll:

  • Deliver hands-on, person-centred care including all aspects of daily living (personal hygiene, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, domestic tasks).
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, lifting, positioning, and use of mobility aides.
  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Plans, restrictive practice protocols (environmental & physical), de-escalation & behaviour intervention as needed.
  • Provide non-verbal communication supports (e.g., key word signing), behaviour cue-reading, anticipating needs.
  • Support participants with accessing the community: social, recreational, medical appointments, learning experiences, outings.
  • Help with skill development: assisting clients to develop independence in daily tasks, social skills, decision making.
  • Maintain a safe environment: adhere to risk assessments, assist with safety protocols, follow restrictive practice guidance, work with allied health and family.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including family, therapists, other support staff: participate in handovers, documentation, progress reviews.
  • Be flexible in rostered shifts: some 2:1 support, variable hours including evenings, weekend, possibly sleepover or passive night shifts depending on client.
  • Contribute to a culture of respect, dignity, choice, and continuous improvement: feedback, training, supervision.

 

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

  • Proven experience supporting people with complex behaviours or high support needs.
  • Confidence in implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans and restrictive practice protocols (environmental & physical).
  • Competence with non-verbal communication (for example key word signing) and reading/responding to behaviour cues.
  • Current:
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check
    • Working with Children Check
    • National Police Check
    • First Aid & CPR Certificate
    • COVID-19 Vaccination

Desirable / Highly Regarded:

  • Certificate III (or higher) in Individual Support / Disability / Community Services or related field.
  • MAYBO training.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification.
  • Experience with behaviour de-escalation, restrictive practices, or injury prevention.
