Support Partner – Complex Needs
Lead. Support. Make a difference.
Are you an experienced House Leader, Team Leader, or Senior Support Worker with a strong background in complex disability support?
Magenta Community Services is looking for an experienced Support Partner – Complex Needs to join our team in a full-time hybrid role, combining hands-on participant support with staff leadership, rostering, coordination and operational responsibilities.
This role is suited to someone who has already demonstrated leadership within a disability support environment and understands what it takes to lead a team, manage complex support needs and maintain safe, consistent and high-quality services.
You’ll remain connected to frontline support while taking greater ownership of staff capability, participant outcomes, complex support strategies, rostering, risk management and day-to-day service coordination.
About the Role
As a Support Partner – Complex Needs, you’ll provide leadership and coordination across a complex support environment while continuing to work directly with participants.
You’ll be responsible for helping ensure participants receive consistent, safe and person-centred support, while providing direction and support to the team delivering that care.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is confident making decisions, managing competing priorities and responding to complex situations.
Your day-to-day will include:
-
Providing hands-on support to NDIS participants with complex behavioural, psychosocial and higher support needs.
-
Providing day-to-day leadership, direction and support to Support Workers.
-
Acting as a key point of contact for participants, staff, families, guardians and relevant stakeholders.
-
Coordinating and maintaining stable, consistent and effective staff rosters, including responding to unplanned changes and workforce requirements.
-
Considering participant needs, award requirements, fatigue management and safe practice when coordinating workforce requirements.
-
Implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) and ensuring support strategies are understood and consistently implemented by the team.
-
Supporting staff to confidently respond to behaviours of concern and complex participant situations.
-
Conducting shift briefings, debriefs, team check-ins and other staff support activities.
-
Mentoring and coaching Support Workers and identifying opportunities to strengthen staff capability.
-
Supporting staff performance, engagement and workforce stability.
-
Responding to participant, staff and service risks and ensuring concerns are appropriately managed and escalated.
-
Monitoring and recording restrictive practices in accordance with participant plans, legislation and organisational requirements.
-
Ensuring shift notes, progress notes, incident reports and other documentation are accurate, timely and meet organisational and compliance requirements.
-
Supporting incident management, including ensuring appropriate immediate responses, documentation and escalation.
-
Supporting the onboarding and transition of new participants and staff.
-
Communicating professionally with families, guardians, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals and other relevant stakeholders.
-
Contributing to participant reviews, case discussions, team meetings and support planning.
-
Monitoring compliance with participant support plans, WHS requirements, NDIS Practice Standards and Magenta policies and procedures.
-
Identifying opportunities to improve the quality, consistency and safety of supports.
-
Working collaboratively with the Support Specialist and wider leadership team.
-
Participating in rotating on-call responsibilities to support service continuity and respond to operational needs.
What makes this role different?
This is not an entry-level leadership position and it is not simply a senior Support Worker role.
We’re looking for someone who has already led people and services within a disability environment and is confident taking ownership when things become complex.
You’ll be expected to use your previous leadership experience to guide staff, maintain consistency across shifts, manage competing priorities and support positive outcomes for participants.
At the same time, you’ll remain actively involved in frontline support. You’ll know what is happening on the floor because you’ll be part of it.
The right person will be someone who can move comfortably between participant support, staff leadership, rostering, administration, risk management and operational problem-solving.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for an experienced disability professional who has already held a leadership or senior operational role.
You’ll bring:
-
Demonstrated experience in a House Leader, Team Leader, Senior Support Worker, Service Coordinator, SIL Coordinator or similar leadership role within the disability sector.
-
Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring and supporting a team of disability Support Workers.
-
Strong experience supporting people with complex behavioural, psychosocial or higher support needs.
-
Experience working within supported accommodation, SIL or a similar complex support environment.
-
Demonstrated experience implementing and monitoring Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs).
-
Strong understanding of restrictive practices and the responsibilities associated with their implementation, monitoring and documentation.
-
Experience managing incidents, risks and behaviours of concern in a calm and considered manner.
-
Experience coordinating staff rosters and responding to workforce challenges.
-
The ability to balance participant needs, staffing requirements, fatigue management and safe service delivery.
-
Experience conducting team briefings, debriefs, staff check-ins and informal coaching.
-
Strong computer and administration skills, including rostering, documentation and reporting systems.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
The confidence to make decisions and take appropriate action when situations change unexpectedly.
-
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
-
A sound understanding of person-centred practice, trauma-informed care and the NDIS Practice Standards.
-
A strong commitment to participant rights, dignity, choice and independence.
-
A proactive approach and demonstrated ability to take ownership of service delivery.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously held responsibility for leading staff and coordinating support within a complex disability environment.
Mandatory Requirements
-
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
-
Valid Working with Children Check (NSW).
-
National Police Check issued within the last 12 months.
-
Current First Aid & CPR Certificate.
-
Australian Driver Licence.
-
Access to a reliable, insured vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
-
COVID-19 vaccination.
Desirable
-
Certificate IV in Disability, Community Services or an equivalent qualification.
-
Previous experience as a House Leader, Team Leader, SIL Coordinator or similar.
-
Experience supporting participants with complex behavioural and psychosocial needs.
-
Experience working within supported accommodation or SIL.
-
Experience using participant management and rostering systems, such as FlowLogic.
-
Restrictive Practices training.
-
Experience working with Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
-
Experience managing complex workforce requirements and service coordination.
-
Experience participating in an on-call or after-hours support arrangement.
